Thorogood American Heritage 6 Boots Review
To begin the review, let’s look at the design first.
Design of the boot
The American Heritage 6 boots come in two designs – a moc toe and a round toe. The moc toe has a fancier look as opposed to the rather plain round toe. However, the rather plain design has a performance feature, which we will discuss a bit later on.
Apart from the differences in the toe design, the two boots have the same lacing system. The boots come with three standard eyelets with three-speed hooks in the middle. At the top, you will find a solo grommet. This lacing system ensures a fantastic lockdown while making it effortless to lace up on the go.
Of course, you can’t miss the ubiquitous Made in USA logo across the heel of the boots. If that was not enough, there is another tag on the vamp of the boots. However, you can remove this tag if you prefer.
The moc toe boots are available in different colors, including tobacco oil-tanned, black walnut leather, Trail Crazyhorse, or just black. On the other hand, tobacco oil-tanned and Trail Crazyhorse leather for the round toe boot are the options for your round toe. Irrespective of the color, the white contrast stitching on the boots adds an element of style and sturdiness.
Material and construction
When it comes to material, the moc toe and round toe both consist of full-grain leather. It doesn’t get better than full-grain if you know anything about leather. Apart from its outstanding quality, the leather also does not require any breaking in.
Both the boots have a steel toe and have F2413-05 M/I/75/C/75 electric hazard from ASTM. The moc toe boots’ shank is typically fiberglass, while the round toe is composite. You can also choose the boots without the steel toe from the non-safety toe boot category.
When it comes to the outsole, both boots have MAXWear with a 90o heel. The soles can be either flat or a wedge. If you need some help vertically, the wedge soles are always a good choice.
The construction on the boots is a Goodyear storm welt. You will find that the overall structure of these Thorogood boots is immaculate. And it is not just because union workers makes them in the great country.
The laces of the American Heritage boots are taslon laces. These rounded style laces are known for their high performance and durability, which is great. Unlike some laces that peel and become a nuisance after some wear, these will easily last the boots’ lifetime.
Comfort and performance
The round toe inarguably has room for toe movement. This does not mean that the moc toe is uncomfortable. In fact, both the boots are very comfortable. However, if you are a tradesman who needs to kneel or bend your feet frequently on the job, the round toe boot will definitely hold your feet better.
On the other hand, the moc toe boot is better suited for those who love the rugged designs of a work boot. You can wear the boot on the job, of course. But don’t expect it to have a lot of toe room.
Apart from the impressive lockdown from the lacing system, the soles have an anti-slip feature. So you can comfortably wear these boots whether rain or shine. However, these Thorogood work boots do not have a lining. Therefore, you cannot expect them to give you protection from the cold. They are, of course, every breathable, which makes them an ideal summer boot.
Furthermore, these work boots have a fantastic shock-absorbing feature. Both types of boots come with a cushioned insole that cradles your feet all day. The Ultimate Shock Absorption footbed is removable, which makes it even more convenient. In addition to protecting your feet, the cushioned insole also gives you a better fit, especially if you have a narrow foot.
The American Heritage boots clock in about 4 lbs, which is very lightweight. So you will have no issues wearing these boots all day long for any type of job.
The only issue is that these work boots do not have a waterproof quality. This has been a long-standing issue for these classic Thorogood boots. Although the brand now offers waterproof boots in the American Heritage series, the 6-inch boots are yet to be given this much-needed feature.
Price and sizing
Considering that, there is so much this boot has to offer, you would be forgiven for assuming that these boots are pricey. On the contrary, these fantastic work boots are very affordable, which is the icing on the cake.
When it comes to sizing, these Thorogood boots fit true to size. You will also appreciate the sizing options, as it is available from 7 up to 14.
You can check out the boots from the brand’s website.
The American Heritage 6 Boots from Thorogood is a classic work boot for its impeccable quality and comfort. Everything about this pair of boots reflects sturdiness and high-performance.
The 6-inch work boots from this series offer a great balance of price, practicality, and comfort. And that is everything you can expect from any pair of shoes, work boots or not.
